Sub-head 38-Argyle Street, Mongkoktsui, Latrine and Bathhouse, $12,000.—The building will provide for 30 seats and urinal with 22 baths, in addition to quarters for attendants.

39. Kowloon British School, Site and Building, $50,000.—The amount now provided is for the preparation of the new site adjoining the Kow- loon Government Hospital.

40.-Kowloon Tong Market, $1,000. This market was put in hand to meet the requirements of the Kowloon Tong Estate residents. The market comprises six stalls, kitchen and store for caretakers, and water flush public latrine.

41.-New Barrack Sheds and alterations at Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station, $2.000.-This work commenced in 1930 is to relieve the congestion at the Tsim Sha Tsui police station and to provide additional accom- modation. The buildings comprise three large wooden Barrack Sheds to accommodate a total of 84 Chinese Police, with brick kitchens, latrines etc.

42.-Roads, $150,000.-To meet the cost of forming and surfacing exten-

sions of main roads to give access to building developments.

43.-(a) Drainage: Training Nullahs, $1,000. To provide drainage for

areas in course of development.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works, $180,000.-This sum is necessary to provide the sewers and storm water drains to connect with new properties which are necessary before the buildings can be occupied.

44.-Miscellaneous, $5,000.—To provide for temporary markets, altera- tions to buildings leased by Government, electrical fittings not other- wise provided for, anti-malaria! work on undeveloped lots, and small items required by Government Departments.

45.—Water Works, $8,000.—To provide for extensions to areas in course

of development.

46.--Port Works, $1,000.--To provide for soundings and borings etc.. for

proposed works.

COMMUNICATIONS.

47.-Chatham Road Extension, $50,000.—This extension provides a

hyepass road in order to avoid the narrow Hung Hom streets.

48-Improving existing main roads for motor traffic, $50,000.—Necessary for strengthening main roads to meet the requirements of heavy and fast moving traffic.

DRAINAGE.

49. -Matauchung Extension of Culvert to Argyle Street (Ma Tau Wei Village), $15,000.—Necessary to complete the drainage of this locality.

MISCELLANEOUS,

50.—Chinese Cemeteries, laying out new areas, $7,000,-Required for ter- racing and draining the new and existing areas in order to make the ground available to burials

PORT WORKS.

54.-Mong Kok Tsui Ferry, $15,000.--The new pier will replace the exist-

ing ferry pier which is old and unsuitable for present conditions.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.

55.-Compensation and Resumptions, $30,000.-This item is for the ac- quisition of buildings and land necessitated by the Town Planning Scheme and for the realignment and widening of streets.

NEW KOWLOON.

BUILDINGS.

56.-Married Quarters, Laichikok Prison, $86,000,--Completes. These quarters were necessary owing to the lack of married quarters attached to the Prison or suitable private houses within a reasonable distance. The quarters provide six flats for married men with three and four rooms and usual offices.

67.--New Female Prison, Laichikok, $100,000.—The buildings provide Cell accommodation for 12 Convicts and 12 Remand Prisoners and Dormitory accommodation for 68 Short Term Prisoners together with Reception Rooms, Hospital, Covered Yards, etc. and in addition Quar- ters for a Matron and 24 Wardresses. The site preparation is being done by Prison labour.

58.-Latrine at Kowloon Tong Waterloo Road (Park area), $2,500.—This convenience will be situated between Essex Crescent and Waterloo Read and provides for four water flush closets and urinal.
